Maria Innocentia Hummel achieved world-renown as the marvelously gifted artist whose sketches, drawings and paintings became the foundation for the three-demensional and basrelief renderings of her work known as Hummels and created by the superlative team of sculptors, 
artists and artisans at the Goebel company.

The artist, born in 1909 as Berta Hummel in Massing, Lower Bavaria, Germany, joined the Franciscan Sisters at the convent of Siessen in 1931 and in 1934 she became Sister Maria Innocentia.  She died in November 1946, but her unique depiction of children lives on in an extensive variety of two-demensional products as well as in the 
famous Hummel Figurines available today.
